I have been thinking about how working online and at home has changed a few things. Most critically is the fact that you can receive e-mails all day and all night. Since COVID has happened it has been my experience that not only do we receive all these e-mails, but a lot of people expect you to answer right away!
I guess the significant thing is when it comes to our work. We talk about anxiety that people are experiencing and part of it is this culture that is growing. If we never take a break and do some things that are enjoyable for us, we will not be effective in the workplace. Do you pay attention to the amount of time you spend online?
I know that I can easily get swept up in this kind of craziness. Recently, I have decided that I will not be checking my e-mails after 7pm. There is nothing so important that it has to be answered immediately. Sometimes people send a message while they are thinking about it so it is done. Unless it is deemed urgent, I am not rushing to respond.
What about those messages in messenger? Messenger was designed for a private chat. Now I receive all kinds of promotional messages. We do need to take control and manage our media. We need to take charge of our life and look at what is really important to us and find a way to do more of it.
If you want to learn more about what you can and cannot control then why not join me on Feb 3,4 and 5 when I facilitate Choice Theory, Reality Therapy and Lead Management Virtual training. Send me a message here and we will make it happen. www.choicetheorytraining.com
