Depression / Expression

Depression / Expression

Recently I watched a video with Dr. Edith Edgar and this quote sang out to me. I pondered the quote the opposite of depression is expression and although I have over 35 years’ experience as a licensed counselling therapist, I had not heard this before. It made perfect sense to me. My mentor and teacher Dr. Glasser stated that it is perfectly normal for all of us to depress at different times in our life and he describes three reasons why we choose to depress. One of those reasons is to restrain the anger.

My thought was that if we can restrain the anger for a while, then we may be more effective when we so the opposite of depressing and express ourselves in a meaningful way.  He went on to say that it is ok to depress from time to time, it is like a time out to figure out what we really want. But when we linger in this state for a long time, more than two weeks, it is important to reach out and talk with someone.

In our training program not only will we discuss this, but we will learn about the other two reasons we depress and we will learn a process that will help others deal with these unwanted emotions. Our next Choice Theory Training starts September 29, 2023. 24 Continuing Education Credits are available. Want more information? www.choicetheorytraining.com or private message me.
