Today I want to talk about perspective. You see, I have been seeing a lot of crazy posts on social media and it occurred to me that in some cases there is not too much critical thinking going on. What do I mean by that?
We all take information in through our five senses and we convert that information to a perception. Here is the thing though! We create our perception based on our life experiences, everything we have learned from the time we are born! The kicker is we then act as if what we just perceived is true because we perceived it.
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and the other person responds entirely different to how you thought they would? That is because they are taking in information in exactly the same way but they are attaching their perspective to it! Now we have two people supposedly talking about the same information but from a different perspective.
Do we every stop and think about what is happening? Do we ask about the other person’s perception of what just happened? Or do we let it escalate to an argument without checking what the other person perceived? There is so much to understand about human behavior and we are all doing the best we can with the knowledge that we currently have.
This explains why there is so much misunderstanding, confusion and misinterpretation of all that we are asked to do in this pandemic. Add to that all the emotions that go along with this and we have many people having real difficulty in adapting to this new norm.
