How engrained does our training in our school system become within us? Think about it, it is probably one of the first times that we will fail in our lives. We have pretty good self-worth until we do our first test and we find out that we are not perfect the way we are. We learn that some how we just do not measure up.
Fear sets in and we start to focus on passing the “ test” instead of learning the joys of learning something new. We are told we have to make a certain mark to obtain a grade that someone else believes will show all that we know. When you think about it the whole system is weird.
What if we could learn by showing competencies? What if we could demonstrate what we know in a warm, caring, supportive environment and we could do this at our own pace? What if we could work towards our strengths and develop our own true interests? How much would we develop personally?
Does this kind of education actually exist? It does if you are in a Glasser Quality School environment. These are some schools from around the world that are practicing these ideas. http://www.wglasserinternational.org/courses/professional-development/quality-schools/declared-quality-schools/
