I remember in my early years doing presentations for parents and youth saying that “knowledge is power.” But when I learned Reality Therapy which is a fail-safe communication process, I learned from Dr. Glasser that using knowledge is power.
It made total sense to me. Of course, using knowledge is power so if we teach a bunch of information that does not mean anything to some, then they have the knowledge but they will not use it because it is not need-satisfying. In his book Quality Schools Dr. Glasser talks about the importance of sharing with students the reason you are asking them to learn something. In other words, why learning this will add value to their life.
Isn’t it the same in the workplace? Have you ever been asked to do something because the boss said so and it makes no sense at all to you? How much better would it be if you. Understood the
“ why” behind what you are being asked to do.
Children are not different. They need to understand the “ why” and it is not just because it is required or I said so. These are just some of the ideas we may discuss in our Basic Training starting September 29, 2023. Find out more here: www.choicetheorytraining.com
